Even a short autumn trip visiting Cades Cove this year was different than many other years. In many areas, trees had been stripped by the winds of the near-hurricane force winds that wreaked havoc in NC in early fall. What had remained then endured 40 days of drought and above normal temperatures that made wildlife much less active. Still, one morning brought dense fog to the Cove that allowed some special opportunities.
