I finally made it to the Tetons for its peak fall colors. But a few days of early snow and strong winds made the shooting a real challenge. Fall foliage was battered in many places of the park but there were a few exceptions, including especially Oxbow Bend. On October 1, the day the government shut down, the winds stopped and the clouds parted for about an hour just before sunrise, revealing the Mount Moran and the Teton Range covered in fresh snow as the aspens peaked. It was a perfect morning - until the government forced everyone out of the Park.

The Last Day, Oxbow Bend, 2013
In a few hours, all visitors will be required to depart the Park, thanks to a Government shutdown. But for the next hour, there is a sense of calm and perfection at Oxbow Bend thanks to an early snowfall atop Mount Moran. Photo © copyright by Ed Fuhr.

Hundreds of photographers captured a few final images of God's perfection, fresh snow and aspen's finest at Oxbow Bend, before being escorted out of the Park as a result of human failings to avert yet another government shutdown. Photo © copyright by Ed Fuhr.

Autumn on the Oxbow after an Early Snow
For days the Tetons were cloaked in heavy clouds as the aspen turned golden. At last, the storms cleared one morning, but there was little time to photograph: the Government had shut down in the morning. Everyone was ordered out of OUR national Parks. Fortunately, they gave us a couple of hours and one of the great scenes in the world could be experienced in its stunning splendor with fresh snow and golden aspens. Photo © copyright by Ed Fuhr.
