Goodbye, Grizzly 760
Grand Teton National Park
I have spent a great deal of time photographing a few of the amazing and glorious grizzly bears of Grand Teton National Park. On this last day, a hard rain began to fall and this grizzly, identified as 760, decided he had had enough and he took off across the meadow and into the brush. I never saw him again. I learned today he was shot and killed by state wildlife officials after he had been found too close to a residential area near Cody. He had been relocated near there after he had been seen in a small subdivision abutting the Grand Teton National Park. I have no idea if the re-location was indeed necessary, or shooting him was the only option. What I do know is it is all very sad, and I prefer to remember when he was wild and free and disappearing through the storm into the thicket where he often hunted. Photo © copyright by Ed Fuhr.
