Summer on Willow Flats
Grand Teton National Park
In the pre-dawn hours, the willow flats provide shelter and abundant food for countless elk and moose, and occasionally wolves and bears. It is a magical place to watch their wary dance before the sun first strikes the peaks of the Tetons and then as it marches down its slopes, across Jackson Lake and finally the willow flats. As the sun moves across the valley, a move that takes surprisingly little time, much of the wildlife quickly seeks shelter and the shadows disappear. The glow on the mountains fades.
