Gentiana glauca features classic deep cobalt-blue, urn or cup-shaped flowers, along with hairy calyx and stems. These gentians rarely open much beyond this stage to protect their pollen from cold rains, strong winds and freezing nighttime temperatures. Photo © copyright by Ed Fuhr.
