Dwarf Alpine Hawksbeard
Denali National Park
The dwarf alpine hawksbeard (Askellia pygmaea, syn. Crepis nana) is a tiny, low-growing perennial plant in the sunflower family (Asteraceae), native to cold arctic and high-mountain regions across North America and Asia. It grows up to 8 inches tall, featuring small yellow flower heads and spoon-shaped basal leaves, found most often like this one in Denali's gravel river bars. Photo © copyright by Ed Fuhr.
