Fatherhood means so many different things to so many. I was shaped by a man who dared and challenged me to dream, to not accept easy answers or the easy way. I miss him dearly every day. When I saw this great male bear a few days ago in the Tetons, known to have fathered many of the bears there, I was taken by the raw power and aura, the sense of invincibility but also passing time; the encounter was brief, almost shadowy.
