A Mother's Cry

Grand Teton National Park

The meadows this time of year are filled with flowers and great wildlife. Spring is in the air and the young are finding their legs. But on this afternoon, the most beloved and known grizzly in all the world has entered the forest and with her inpeccable scent found the newborn elk, on which she and her cub will feed for the next few hours. Mom has retreated to the meadow where she looks and calls repeatedly to her young baby to come forth. But there is only silence. For nearly a day she stands and parades and cries her bawl. Life in the wild is not all cuteness and smiles; it is a day by day struggle to stay alive. Photo © copyright by Ed Fuhr.
